Lynne Barrett Headlines Free Writers Conference

Schedule Now Available

Dear Writers,

Thank you for your interest in our 14th annual writers’ conference. Once again, we have assembled a variety of accomplished writers, editors, and agents who will present informative workshops, lectures, and panel discussions, addressing differing aspects of writing, editing, publication, and promotion. Past attendees have complimented our conferences on being both informative and inspirational.

This year, we’re pleased to announce that our special guests will be author Lynne Barret and agent Cricket Freeman and publisher Ben Leroy.

FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 14 YEARS THE ENTIRE GULF COAST WRITERS CONFERENCE WILL BE ABSOLUTELY FREE!

They will join our accomplished faculty for another wonderful year of inspiration and education. Past presenters have included, Connie May Fowler, Michael Connelly, Alafair Burke, Jim Pascoe, Jim Huang, Margaret Coel, Benjamin M. LeRoy, Terry Lewis, Lynn Wallace, Mark Ryan, Cricket Freeman, Douglas Wells, Tony Simmons, River Jordan, S. V. Date, and Michael Lister.

We are thrilled to again be holding this year’s conference in the Language and Lit Building of Gulf Coast State College (5230 W. Hwy 98, Panama City, FL).

We have found that each participant in past conferences has added great dimension and diversity to the experience of our conference, so please see yourself not only as a participant, but as a valued contributor to this celebration of craft and artistic endeavor.

Sincerely,
Michael Lister

Lynne Barrett is the author of the story collections The Secret Names of Women, The Land of Go, and most recently Magpies, which received the Gold Medal for General Fiction in the Florida Book Awards. Publishers Weekly says of Magpies, “Florida is electric with the tension of ‘all that can happen’—hurricanes, sinkholes, and a boom-and-bust history. It becomes as eerie as it is richly imagined...” Her writing can be found in Real South, Night Train, Ellery Queen’s Mystery Magazine, The Southern Women’s Review, and in many anthologies including Delta Blues, One Year to a Writing Life, Mondo Barbie, Blue Christmas and, forthcoming this fall, Fifteen Views of Miami.

She edited Tigertail: Florida Flash and co-edited Birth: A Literary Companion. She was the founding editor of Gulf Stream Magazine, and is currently editor of The Florida Book Review. Her essay in The Review Review, “What Editors Want,” went viral and was featured in the L.A. Times and reprinted by Glimmer Train.

She has received the Edgar Award for best mystery story, the Moondance International Film Festival best short story award, and a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship. Born in New Jersey, she lives in Miami and teaches in the MFA program at Florida International University. Learn more about Lynne on her website: lynnebarrett.com
